Colorado Coalition for the Homeless' Statement on "Camping Ban" Ordinance
DENVER (May 15, 2012)—"We think it is unfortunate that Denver's City Council moved forward with this punitive measure without first establishing a concrete plan to ensure that there was adequate emergency shelter, housing and treatment services for those sleeping on our streets tonight. Despite the passage of the camping ban, the debate illuminated many struggles faced by our homeless neighbors including lack of mental health services and inadequate shelter. We will continue our hard work moving families and individuals off the streets and into safe, stable housing as quickly as possible. We will work with the Mayor's Office, the business community and the larger community to develop real solutions that will improve the lives of homeless families and individuals while creating a better quality of life for our city and its neighborhoods," John Parvensky, president of Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.
