A tax credit directly decreases the taxes you owe, in contrast to a deduction that reduces the income on which your tax bill is calculated. The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless participates in the Child Care Contribution tax credit and the Denver Enterprise Zone tax credit programs.
You may reserve tax credits by pledging a gift of $250 or more in a year and noting the tax credit program on your pledge. We will certify your tax credits as we receive your pledge payments and gifts. We expect to certify all available tax credits well before the year ends, so making pledge payments early and throughout the year will assure that you receive the maximum benefit.
The Child Care Contribution Credit is a State of Colorado tax program to encourage investment in high quality child care for impoverished children ages 0-12 years. Your cash gift of $250.00 or more designated to the Coalition’s child care programs can qualify for 50% tax credit on your Colorado state tax bill (gifts of stocks do not qualify for the Child Care Contribution Credit). The Coalition may accept up to $1 million annually in gifts qualifying for the Child Care Contribution Credit, certifying up to $500,000 in state tax credits. Individual taxpayers/donors may receive up to $100,000 per year in tax credits under this program.
The Denver Enterprise Zone is a State of Colorado tax credit program to encourage investment and improvements to distressed inner city areas. Your cash gift of $250.00 or more may qualify for a 25% tax credit on your Colorado state tax bill; gifts of stock qualify for 12.5% tax credit. The Coalition may accept up to $3 million annually in Enterprise Zone qualifying gifts, certifying $750,000 in state tax credits. Within that limit, there is no restriction on the tax credits available to a single individual taxpayer/donor.
Individual taxpayer circumstances vary, so please consult your tax advisor.
