Colorado Coalition for the Homeless Honored for Innovation in Solutions to End Homelessness
(DENVER) - John Parvensky recently earned the 2010 Housing Colorado! Eagle Award for his long time work to expand affordable housing in this state. As President and CEO of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless since 1984, John has spearheaded the development of more than 1,400 units of affordable housing in the Denver Metropolitan Area. The award was announced October 14, 2010 at Housing Colorado’s annual statewide conference in Vail.
John also received the 2010 People’s Choice Award. The recipient of the People’s Choice Award is chosen by conference attendees and recognizes cutting edge work in the affordable housing field.
“John is a renowned affordable housing advocate,” said members of the Housing Colorado! Awards Committee. “He has been active in the creation of ground-breaking federal legislation and model programs in the arena of homeless prevention and assistance.”
The prestigious Eagle Award celebrates the extraordinary accomplishments, innovations and outstanding leadership of Coloradans in housing and support services. This year, there were 10 nominees for the Eagle Award and four recipients. John was the only individual selected.
“I am honored to receive this recognition and do so on behalf of everyone here at the Coalition and those we serve,” he said. “These awards are a reflection on our extraordinarily dedicated employees and volunteers who work tirelessly to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people in our state.”
Housing Colorado! is composed of housing professionals engaged in the full spectrum of affordable housing production and preservation activities, including both rental and home ownership opportunities. Membership spans all sections: cities; public housing authorities; financial agencies and institutions; for-profit and non-profit developers; realtors; and human service agencies.
The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is recognized around the country as a leader in the integration of housing, healthcare and support services for persons experiencing homelessness – serving more than 16,000 men, women and children each year. In November, the Coalition marks 25 years of service to the community.
The mission of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is to work collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for homeless and at-risk families, children, and individuals throughout Colorado. The Coalition advocates for and provides a continuum of housing and a variety of services to improve the health, well-being and stability of those it serves.
