DENVER — Gather your friends for the 3rd Annual Home for the Holidays 5K and Family Fun Run to benefit the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. This pet-friendly race at Denver’s City Park is a great opportunity to form a team, show your spirit, and raise funds to help homeless families and individuals this winter. Colorado’s News Leader 9NEWS, joins us as our media partner. Your registration includes a cool race t-shirt, goody bag, refreshments, and a post-race expo with fun activities for families and kids. There will be lots of great prizes for the fastest racers, biggest team and best costumes. Register, donate, and help us spread the word. Visit www.coloradocoalition.org/events.
On any given night, about 11,000 people in Denver will be homeless. It is projected that 18,000 will experience homelessness at some point this year, more than half of whom will be in families with young children. Twenty percent of homeless adults are veterans.
“This is a difficult economic time for those of us with good jobs, decent education and strong family supports,” said John Parvensky, President of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. “Imagine, however, what it must be like for those who are struggling to find a safe place to sleep tonight, a way to feed their children, a job that pays a living wage.” The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is recognized nationally as a leader in the integration of housing, healthcare and supportive services for persons experiencing homelessness – serving more than 16,000 men, women and children each year. The Coalition provides lasting solutions to homelessness through over 40 programs including employment assistance and job training, street outreach, rapid re-housing, permanent supportive housing, individualized case management, family services, medical and mental healthcare, substance treatment programs, early childhood education and legislative advocacy.
The mission of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is to work collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for homeless and at-risk families, children, and individuals throughout Colorado. CCH advocates for and provides a continuum of housing and a variety of services to improve the health, well-being and stability of those it serves. www.coloradocoalition.org
