Colorado Medicaid Funding in Jeopardy

The one-time federal extension of matching funds for state Medicaid (FMAP) and child welfare (Title IV-E) programs that appeared to be a certainty in April is now in serious jeopardy. Thirty states, including Colorado , have already set their FY2011 budgets assuming that Congress would continue the existing allocation from January 2011 through July 2011.

Without it, Colorado stands to lose approximately $245 million, necessitating deeper cuts to an already devastated state budget.

The House of Representatives dropped the appropriation from H.R. 4213, the American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010, but the Senate can restore it tomorrow in their version of the legislation.

Please call Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall now. Ask them to include an FMAP extension in H.R. 4213 so that Colorado can protect critical services and programs for the homeless.
